Planning Thanksgiving at the lake house - need to get organized
I need to send one email to the whole family about Thanksgiving this year. We are hosting at our lake house in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
16 people total across 4 households. My parents (both in their 70s), my brother Tom and his wife and their 3 kids (ages 5, 8, and 12), my sister Rachel who just got divorced and is bringing her new boyfriend James that nobody has met yet, and my family of 5.
Dietary situation: Mom is diabetic, Tom's wife is strictly gluten-free, and James is apparently vegan. We need to figure out the menu without making it feel like a medical conference.
Sleeping: The lake house has 4 bedrooms and a pull-out couch. Parents get the main bedroom. Everyone else needs to work out rooms.
We have done Secret Santa with a $50 limit for adults for years. Kids get separate small gifts from each household.
Tom keeps suggesting we split food costs evenly but Rachel is financially stretched after the divorce. I would rather cover more of the costs without making it obvious.
People arrive Wednesday through Friday with dinner on Thursday. Need to figure out activities for the kids and something for Friday since most people stay through the weekend.
