Here are our family updates for this year. Need help turning this into our annual letter that goes to about 60 people including extended family and close friends.
Sarah (17) got her drivers license in March, minor fender bender in April (everyone fine), now drives everywhere and we never see the car. Jack (14) made varsity soccer as a freshman, broke his wrist in October but recovered fast. We finally renovated the kitchen after 4 years of talking about it, went way over budget but we love it. I (Beth) got promoted to VP in June. Mike (husband) left his corporate job in September to start a consulting practice, stressful but exciting. Family trip to Costa Rica in July, Jack got stung by a jellyfish on day one and was a trooper about it. Mom (my mother) was diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer's in August, she is doing well with treatment but it has been a hard adjustment for everyone. Our dog Biscuit turned 12 and is slowing down but still steals food off the counter. We hosted Thanksgiving for the first time and only set off the smoke alarm twice.
The letter should feel warm and real. I do not want to gloss over the hard stuff but I also do not want to bring everyone down. And definitely do not want it to sound braggy about the promotion or the kitchen renovation.
