Explain Grade Rationale

Can you help me respond to this? I know the grade is fair but I need to explain it better than I usually do.

Hi Mr. Torres,
I am writing about Aiden's semester 2 grade in English 10 Honors. He received a B- and I am confused because he told me he turned in all his assignments and participated in class. He worked very hard this semester and I do not understand how he ended up with this grade. Can you explain what happened?
Thank you,
Michelle Crawford
Here is Aiden's breakdown:
- Literary analysis essays (40% weight): 78, 72, 81
- Reading quizzes (15%): 85 average
- Class discussion/participation (15%): 80
- Final research paper (20%): 69
- Homework completion (10%): 95
His research paper was the big issue. He chose a topic he was passionate about but did not follow the argument structure we practiced all semester. I gave detailed rubric feedback on the draft but he did not revise before the final submission. The essays improved over the semester which is positive.
